Andrea Wan is one of my latest amazing discoveries. Images that travel you into a surreal and emotive world rich in surprises and inspiration. Her drawing style and coloring are so intimate, yet bold and expressive.

The artist currently lives and creates in Vancouver, BC and her projects have been featured in numerous fresh magazines.

He sure does! Nick Iluzada is a truly talented illustrator, currently studying in MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art). His drawings are filled with bursting energy, a sort of visual adventure and I am particularly enamored with his coloring and of course, his very special drawing style.

I’m really looking forward to viewing more from this young artist as I’m sure he’s got plenty to show in the future!

Laura Barnard’s work is inspired by the notion of city and of course architecture. Her cityscapes are amazingly detailed and her  quirky drawing style is different from the strict geometric lines often used to depict such subjects. Complexity remains but is often enhanced by a more dreamy perspective.

The artist is based in UK and you can check out more of her work here.

I was delighted to receive an email by artist Eliza Frye introducing me to her work which captivated me right from the start! Her fragile, yet expressive and poetic figures draw you into their mysterious worlds. Lovely use of bold and vibrant colors and a very interesting experimentation with negative space!

As I read in her official site: “The artist has studied Character Animation at California Institute of the Arts, holds a BA in Japanese Literature from UCLA and is currently working on her MFA in Creative Writing at Calarts. She also owns Miss Scarlet in the Parlor, an art gallery in Echo Park and teaches animation at Inner-City Arts through Calarts' Community Arts Partnership.”

Don’t forget to take a look at Eliza Frye’s online shop for an inspiring collection of both prints and original art!

Surreal Portraits 10/18/2010

I really had trouble in selecting the works I’d like to feature by Ian Macarthur! Everything is so amazing: intricate patterns and shapes that create a fantastic surreal visual wave, expressive faces and inspirational use of different media!

Here is a part from the artist’s statement: “My work is described as surreal and unique in its own way. Using mostly pencil, watercolors and pigment pens I create portraits of ordinary people but create them in a unusual way by embellishing patterns and watercolor effects into the portrait to give a vivid explosion effect. Making there faces from something plain to something entirely bizarre and wonderful at the same time”.

Be Happy Now 10/01/2010

What I enjoy in Jenny Meilihove’s artwork is that it is like poetry! Whimsical, refreshing, dreamy, surreal …

The illustrator currently lives and creates in Israel and she notes: “I want my artworks to bring happiness to everyone. I want people to forget about all the troubles they have, and emotionally participate in pleasant situations I capture in my works. I think that in order to be happy, we don’t need much. The tiny uplifting things that each of us can easily find in our daily life can make us very happy, if we think seriously about for just a moment, and without any effort (like giving a big big hug to a tiny cat, or to imagine your dream comes true)… We just need to remember to dream, when we still do another and important things.”

Don’t forget to check out her online shop and follow her tweets!

Gorgeous paintings by Beatriz Martin Vital, a talented artist from Spain. Her work is whimsical, poetic and absolutely inspiring.

With an ability to capture emotion in both the expressions and movement of her subjects, she creates visual of a higher aesthetic level that makes us daydream. I particularly love the splendid use of textures in her pieces.

Lena Wolff is a mixed media artist who creates beautiful, textured and layered images inspired mainly by the natural world.

“As an artist I'm informed by an interest in folk art, anthropomorphic fables, allegory, organic abstraction and veneration for the natural world. Working with mixed mediums on paper, I draw from philosophies of the Arts and Crafts Movement and the re-contextualization of textile traditions as much as by contemporary drawing and painting practice. Using paper-cut, collage and pinpricks on paper, I work to construct textured and layered images that appear otherworldly and fantastic.”

Jillian Tamaki is a talented illustrator from Canada who currently lives and creates in Brooklyn NY. Having a very distinctive personal style, she mainly focuses in the editorials field but she also has a passion for comics.

I love the way she uses color and there is always a dramatic touch in her artwork.
