Contemporary mixed media artist and sculptor Gilles Barbier creates installations that are destined to make us skip a heartbeat. Surreal, bold and provocative, his human formed characters are found in situations that may seem exaggerated but, from my point of view, are meant to trigger our awakening and realization of our, some times, ill natured human behavior.

I also found this video where a curator talks about one of Barbier’s sculptures entitled: “In the soup, a cheddar fondue and three nightmares, speech bubbles (tenant & owner), isolated segments (the infinite assassin) and bananas.”

Welcome to the pink pop world of Buff Monster! Happy creatures and awesome patterns and textures all combined to create the cutest visuals, paintings, design toys and installations. The artist has been presented in numerous magazines and websites and currently resides and creates in Hollywood.

“The color pink, a symbol of confidence, individuality and happiness, is present in everything he creates. Buff Monster’s creative endeavors began by putting up thousands of hand-silkscreened posters across Los Angeles and in far-away places. His frequent poster missions developed into a productive street art career, and he now works on fine art paintings, collectible toys and select design projects. He paints on wood, taking great care to create his images as flat as possible, and his work has been shown in galleries worldwide, often accompanied by large installations.”

The human form is a subject that deeply inspires Antony Gormley who has been creating sculptures of the human body and experimenting with the notion of transformation and collective identity for the last 25 years.

The artist’s both sculptures and large scale installations have been exhibited internationally.

Kate MccGwire’s overwhelming feather sculptures are urging the viewer to alter their perception and preconceptions about beauty.

Using uncommon materials, the artist creates dynamic forms that intrigue one’s imagination!

I read in the artist’s statement: “Intrinsic to her method is the collecting and sorting of materials from hundreds of different sources over a period of months, even years. In turn, pieces evolve intuitively as if out of the subconscious, the language evocative rather than purely illustrative. As the work takes shape, a new, playful reality emerges, so that the object itself becomes a sort of prism, refracting the layers of meaning and cultural associations buried within, the quantity of materials used sometimes deliberately overwhelming, as if charged with a power and ambition beyond the reach they possess when seen in isolation”.

Don’t be fooled! These are not canvas paintings, but real people painted by the hand of talented and innovative installation artist Alexa Meade.

Balancing between perception and reality she paints on live models, 3d surfaces and various objects and incorporates her creations into various installations that urge the viewer to experience an alternate perspective of her art.
