 Laura Barnard’s work is inspired by the notion of city and of course architecture. Her cityscapes are amazingly detailed and her quirky drawing style is different from the strict geometric lines often used to depict such subjects.  DrFranken is a software developer and most importantly, a digital illustrator who creates astonishing visuals filled with power and fixating forms that seem ready to explode in millions of inspired pixels in every direction!  I really had trouble in selecting the works I’d like to feature by Ian Macarthur! Everything is so amazing: intricate patterns and shapes that create a fantastic surreal visual wave, expressive faces and inspirational use of different media! Here is a part from the artist’s statement: “My work is described as surreal and unique in its own way. Using mostly pencil, watercolors and pigment pens I create portraits of ordinary people but create them in a unusual way by embellishing patterns and watercolor effects into the portrait to give a vivid explosion effect.  What I enjoy in Jenny Meilihove’s artwork is that it is like poetry! Whimsical, refreshing, dreamy, surreal … The illustrator currently lives and creates in Israel and she notes: “I want my artworks to bring happiness to everyone. I want people to forget about all the troubles they have, and emotionally participate in pleasant situations I capture in my works. I think that in order to be happy, we don’t need much.  Welcome to the pink pop world of Buff Monster! Happy creatures and awesome patterns and textures all combined to create the cutest visuals, paintings, design toys and installations. The artist has been presented in numerous magazines and websites and currently resides and creates in Hollywood. “The color pink, a symbol of confidence, individuality and happiness, is present in everything he creates. Buff Monster’s creative endeavors began by putting up thousands of hand-silkscreened posters across Los Angeles and in far-away places. His frequent poster missions developed into a productive street art career, and he now works on fine art paintings, collectible toys and select design projects.  Joe Van Wetering explores the world of color and forms by creating visuals filled with energy. There is an inspiring balance that I appreciate in his works.  Fresh typography by Jessica Hische, a young talented typographer and illustrator from Brooklyn. Her work is elegant, playful and very communicative. As she mentions in her online bio she started designing type out of necessity: “I was broke in college and couldn’t afford to go on an awesome font spending spree and didn’t have the time to pour through the free font sites for something actually worth using. I noticed in school that my hand drawn type would make the project feel more cohesive and special, so I tried to make custom type as much as possible for projects. Now, almost everything I make has hand-lettering in it. One major disadvantage to being good at hand-lettering is that I am TERRIBLE at picking out fonts for projects. Every time I’ve needed a crazy display font for something, I’ve just made it myself because it takes me less time to make it than it does to scour the internet for something good. Don’t ask me to recommend a similar font to anything I’ve made, I won’t know what to tell you and then I’ll feel like a lame designer.”     An essence from the past 02/23/2010
  Matte Stephens is a young artist living and creating in Portland: “I love modern design and im inspired by anything Charles and Ray Eames ,Alexander Girard, George Nelson/Irving Harper and artists like Ben Shahn and Paul Klee.” I really like the consistency in his artwork, his color palette is amazing and the overall atmosphere in his pieces bear an essence from the past.  SINKERS There is a feel of collective consciousness in Mel Kadel’s inspiring artwork. Warm, earthy tones, a wide range of beautifully drawn patterns and a repeated woman figure are basic elements of her work.  JUST BELOW THE SUN  I found a very interesting interview of the artist for Fecal Face, where she states the reason this female figure often appears in her pieces: “I think the female(s) in my drawings are a lot of different people. I'm in there somewhere too, but it's not a story completely based around me. I use to draw more than just women, and i'm sure i will again, but over time she just became this reoccurring character that I gravitate towards these days. To me, It's like the scenes and struggles that she gets involved in, are more of what the drawing is about than she is. Her age and ethnicity is meant to be vague, to help not corner her into a stereotype.
