I was deeply drawn in when I first set my eyes on Kate MacDowell’s phenomenal work! So surreal and fresh, delicate yet dark – natural yet distorted. The detail in her creations is simply amazing and the symbolic visual language used very powerful!

Andrea Wan is one of my latest amazing discoveries. Images that travel you into a surreal and emotive world rich in surprises and inspiration. Her drawing style and coloring are so intimate, yet bold and expressive.

The artist currently lives and creates in Vancouver, BC and her projects have been featured in numerous fresh magazines.

DrFranken is a software developer and most importantly, a digital illustrator who creates astonishing visuals filled with power and fixating forms that seem ready to explode in millions of inspired pixels in every direction!

DrFranken along with Natalia Molinos form NastPlas, a creative studio in Madrid, where one can browse through a variety of projects implemented by using a number of techniques such as 3d, airbrush, vectors, and photography!

I really had trouble in selecting the works I’d like to feature by Ian Macarthur! Everything is so amazing: intricate patterns and shapes that create a fantastic surreal visual wave, expressive faces and inspirational use of different media!

Here is a part from the artist’s statement: “My work is described as surreal and unique in its own way. Using mostly pencil, watercolors and pigment pens I create portraits of ordinary people but create them in a unusual way by embellishing patterns and watercolor effects into the portrait to give a vivid explosion effect. Making there faces from something plain to something entirely bizarre and wonderful at the same time”.

Contemporary mixed media artist and sculptor Gilles Barbier creates installations that are destined to make us skip a heartbeat. Surreal, bold and provocative, his human formed characters are found in situations that may seem exaggerated but, from my point of view, are meant to trigger our awakening and realization of our, some times, ill natured human behavior.

I also found this video where a curator talks about one of Barbier’s sculptures entitled: “In the soup, a cheddar fondue and three nightmares, speech bubbles (tenant & owner), isolated segments (the infinite assassin) and bananas.”

I was completely blown away when Adriean Koleric, a talented artist from Canada introduced me to his work!

Amazing visual compositions with a distinct surrealistic touch where past is fused with future leading to the creation of new, fantastic worlds. His intrigue compositions have an exciting color palette that makes the artist’s pieces even more appealing to one’s eye.

When I first discovered Fred Einaudi and viewed his artwork I felt a chill going down my spine.


Juxtaposing and unexpected characters are found in surreal environments where the essence of devastation is prominent.


Einaudi’s portraits are an inspiring fusion of fears and visions, thus engage an almost futuristic character.

Very emotive and expressive art by David Choe an artist who is active in a wide variety of both themes and mediums. I chose to present some of his oil and mixed media artworks because I strongly believe that his work is bound to captivate both your eyes and your mind.

I was very excited when I discovered the work of Andrew Archer. I love the textures, color palette and sense of constant motion in his work, along with his excellent skills in illustrating bold, imaginative and original images.

I quote from the artist’s statement: “I’m greatly inspired by surrealism, juxtapositions and sublime narratives but more specifically wood block prints, edo period art, cartoons, ideograms, characterization, travel and Asia. Through my work I’ve been lucky enough to work within a range of super cool mediums including editorials, advertising, web, moving picture, storyboards and more and continue to do so.”

What I love in Casey Weldon’s artwork is the nostalgic feeling they bring out, combined with various surreal symbols and concepts that make the viewer look and search deeper.

I quote from an interview the artist did for The Dirt Floor: “It’s hard for me, as I’m sure it is for most artists, to define my work to others, mainly because I want it to be so many things and am not sure what is translating the clearest. My intent is to be narrative, accessible, and hopefully pleasurable to look at. I definitely like to involve a lot of nolstalgic pop references, especially for the more humorous side of my work, but I also like referring to nature and man’s interaction with it. In the end my major goal is to get the viewer to be inquisitive about the painting, either to get the punchline, or make one up on their own. I can only hope that I can be interesting enough for them without being too ambiguous, but still say something without spelling it out. In the meantime, my technical skill is always improving, but has a long way to go before I’m anywhere near satisfied with it.”
