He sure does! Nick Iluzada is a truly talented illustrator, currently studying in MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art). His drawings are filled with bursting energy, a sort of visual adventure and I am particularly enamored with his coloring and of course, his very special drawing style.

I’m really looking forward to viewing more from this young artist as I’m sure he’s got plenty to show in the future!

Laura Barnard’s work is inspired by the notion of city and of course architecture. Her cityscapes are amazingly detailed and her  quirky drawing style is different from the strict geometric lines often used to depict such subjects. Complexity remains but is often enhanced by a more dreamy perspective.

The artist is based in UK and you can check out more of her work here.

Stitched Illustration 11/10/2010

A fresh approach to illustration by Peter Crawley who creates stitched designs primarily inspired by architecture, typography and geometric patterns.

As I read from his official site: “All illustrations are created by piercing 420gsm watercolor paper with a pin and then stitching the paper with cotton thread. The first piece was inspired by a road trip across America, and wanting to illustrate the journey. Inspiration was taken from the fine line detailing present in cartography, the bold route markers of road maps and silk maps.”

I was delighted to receive an email by artist Eliza Frye introducing me to her work which captivated me right from the start! Her fragile, yet expressive and poetic figures draw you into their mysterious worlds. Lovely use of bold and vibrant colors and a very interesting experimentation with negative space!

As I read in her official site: “The artist has studied Character Animation at California Institute of the Arts, holds a BA in Japanese Literature from UCLA and is currently working on her MFA in Creative Writing at Calarts. She also owns Miss Scarlet in the Parlor, an art gallery in Echo Park and teaches animation at Inner-City Arts through Calarts' Community Arts Partnership.”

Don’t forget to take a look at Eliza Frye’s online shop for an inspiring collection of both prints and original art!

I really had trouble in selecting the works I’d like to feature by Ian Macarthur! Everything is so amazing: intricate patterns and shapes that create a fantastic surreal visual wave, expressive faces and inspirational use of different media!

Here is a part from the artist’s statement: “My work is described as surreal and unique in its own way. Using mostly pencil, watercolors and pigment pens I create portraits of ordinary people but create them in a unusual way by embellishing patterns and watercolor effects into the portrait to give a vivid explosion effect. Making there faces from something plain to something entirely bizarre and wonderful at the same time”.
