The creations of Lyn Swan quickly gained my attention. Minimal and playful – her items are very original and whimsical and this collection in particular inspired by nature.

As Lyn notes in her online shop: “I was born to work in clay, ever since I remember I have been addicted to clay and been producing for over thirty five years .... yikes ..... that seems a long time, but time flies when you are having fun!” And it surely shows that the artist puts her heart in her pieces.

Beautiful, contemporary and simply inspiring are the ceramic artworks of Isabelle Abramson, a young self taught artist who currently lives and creates in Boston.

Intricate patterns are created from porcelain, silver, gold and platinum and all of the pieces are hand signed by the artist before being fired.

Check out her online gallery here!

In Mud Puppy one can browse through a truly gorgeous collection of modern ceramic hanging air plant pods along with various air plants called tillandsias.

As the crafter informs us: “They look amazing individually or hung in groups! You can also display these right side up on a shelf or table just by taking the cord and hanger out.”

A touch of Earth

In DiTerra online shop clay is transformed into beautiful, unique pieces. Everything is made traditionally on a potter’s wheel and gradually transformed into the desired shape.

I love the natural feel of DiTerra’s pottery. The crafter notes: “I enjoy pottery because of it's calming affect, I love sitting at the potter's wheel and watching the clay transform into something new. Pottery is so cool because you start the process with a block of clay and finish with a beautiful and functional piece of art. I especially love decorating and glazing my pieces. It's always fun experimenting with different glazes and slips (liquid clay applied like paint) because you never really know how it's going to come out of the kiln! Every time I get a new batch of pieces done, it's like opening presents at Christmas. I'm always excited to see what unfolds.”

JMN POTTERY

Transforming clay to unique design objects is Jennifer Nesbitt’s specialization. As the artist mentions “There's something wonderful about manipulating a shapeless lump of clay, and about seeing and feeling a idea take shape. When creating a piece, I'm conscious of form, symmetry (and intentional asymmetry), balance, proportion, and many other elements of aesthetic content. But I want each piece to appeal to the touch as well as the eye. I spend a lot of time on texture because it adds another dimension to the tactility of working with clay and lends a sense of movement and rhythm to the fixed object. I try to use colors to the same effect, combining and layering glazes to create interesting visual textures.”

I absolutely love the colorful minimalism and design aesthetics of JMN Pottery.

I have to admit that I spent ‘ages’ in Nina’s blog! Happy colors, pop designs and oh so many fabulous ceramics.

Nina lives in the Netherlands and beyond creating or redecorating to die for ceramics she’s also into making collages, screen-printing and clothes. Do stop by her little corner in Etsy. I promise you won’t regret it!
