Beauty is a Weapon

“Beauty is a weapon” is the motto of Roman, the designer of “Harem Royal”, a gorgeous collection of goth – Victorian and steampunk inspired jewelry. I am particularly impressed by the amount of detail and craftsmanship of these pieces! It really shows that they were made with true passion and this – in my opinion, is very important!

As Roman notes: “Balancing between the Oriental need for seduction and Western hunger for power, Harem Royal aims at satisfying the clashing demands of women's secret desires”.

Check out Harem Royal on facebook and twitter too!

In “Bullfinch and Barbury” you can discover a wide variety of handcrafted adornments made of copper and brass in fantastic color combinations!

As the crafter notes: “I draw inspiration for my designs from varied sources, like a few long-adored antiques, exotic flowering plants and even the manner in which color projects personality”.

Missy Industry’s silver jewelry collection is an interesting combination of both horror and romance. Her pieces are hand made and I particularly like the boldness and freshness of her designs.

As Missy notes: “Inspired by tattoos, graphic design, mechanics, electronic music, heavy metal fashion, horror films, witchcraft, tribes, romance...”

A must have for every vintage- gothic-rocker out there. Shop here!

Amazingly intricate designs primarily inspired by nature and computing by the Nervous System creative duo: Jesse Louis-Rosenberg and Jessica Rosenkrantz.

Found in 2007, in Nervous System one can find a wide variety of pieces produced in various materials such as silicone rubber, stainless steel, gold, wool and nylon.

“Nervous System is an experimental design firm that uses new technologies to reinterpret natural phenomena. Instead of designing individual objects, we write computer programs that detail a design process generating a myriad of designs.”

Ring Power

06/14/2010

In Midwest Alchemy one can find a wide selection of handmade artisan rings rich in sculptural elements and gorgeous rough gemstones.

Here is a small introduction by the designer: “Currently I am exploring organic forms as sculptural elements. I am intrigued by the textures and subtle nuances of nature (shape, color, repetition) as well as those created by man. Mundane, often overlooked objects also act as a source of inspiration. Interesting, imperfect, non-traditional they may be…but a rusty gate, a crack in the sidewalk or a fallen oak represents the notion of a harsher, yet honest beauty. Each component, whether it be a stone - precious or not - or a seed pod - has been hand selected with these visuals in mind. A sculptural work of art – encompassing all of these concepts – created to be as unique as its wearer!”.

Handcrafted charming pieces with a mystic essence by Markhed Designs.

Here is a very interesting introduction to both the creative procedure and inspirations of the designer: “To begin with, I re-use discarded metal items to create many different types of jewelry. I find the act of bringing new value to something seen as worthless an exciting concept. As technology continues to change rapidly, the items we discard seem to increase tenfold. Reuse is my reaction to this culture of disposal. I complement this recycled fashion with some labor intensive pieces begun from scratch. For these I use a variety of materials, from precious metals such as silver and gold to brass and copper. These projects offer me a playground for the expression of my own aesthetic.”
